- Athletic Body Movements/Mechanics,
- Arm Action and Command,

Athletic Movements, Lower Body Engagement, Ground Force & Clean Arm Action
(Late December thru early January)– Phase 1 is 2-3 weeks and it begins in late December when most players are coming off of a 6-8 week shutdown period from throwing.
Pitcher's will meet 2x per week with Day 1 focusing on drill work and corrective and Day 2 on an indoor long-toss plan and flat ground bullpens. Each session begins with a complete warm-up and activation program specifically designed for pitchers.
From a pitching mechanics standpoint, we begin focusing on lower body mechanics, movement patterns, clean/repeatable arm action and proper use of each individual's body.
Most pitchers may not be aware but more than half of the body’s strength and power sits in the lower halves where the largest muscles of the posterior chain (glutes and hamstrings) reside.
Many young pitchers have difficulty engaging their lower half, so at this stage we begin to work on pitching mechanics with a focus on lower body engagement as well as correctives drills.
Long-Toss, Arm Strength, Secondary Pitches & Commanding the Strike Zone
The Second Phase of the program begins in early January and this Phase is approximately one month long. With the shutdown period completely behind us, Phase II keeps in mind that pitchers will be throwing 2x per week.
Day 1 will be our "Bullpen Day" focusing on drill work, correctives and an aggressive long-toss and Day 2 will be "Game Day" which will be a scripted bullpen where we increase our intensity and pitch count each week. Pitcher's will throw Change-ups and start to 'spin' breaking balls and sliders (with less intent).
In Phase II, Pitchers begin each session with a complete warm-up and activation sequence similar to the prior Phase. During this Phase, Pitchers will participate in a weekly long toss program and continue throwing bullpens once per week and take part in corrective drills, weighted ball holds and lower body engagement drills.
High Intent Level, Setting Up Hitters, Situational/Count Pitching, Pitching Heights/Widths, Command vs. Control & Winners Pitching
The Third Phase of the protocol begins in early February and it’s about getting pitchers ready for the upcoming season. It picks up where Phase II left off.
Pitchers will be throwing two bullpens per week, taking part in weighted ball holds and focusing on a variety of topics from
- situational pitching,
- video analysis and review,
- strike zone management,
- and velocity review.
Taking into consideration that pitchers will be ramping up their bullpens in this phase, scap stabilizations are increased and med ball work is done primarily on the non–dominant side. This Phase is also approximately one month long.
The focus is: repeating the delivery, clean/healthy arm action, pitch types, setting up hitters, holding runners, situational pitching, pitching diagonal, pitching the count, command vs. control, and more Visualizing the strike zone with strike strings and dummy batters Video analysis (using IPAD technology) where we breakdown pitches and pitchers receive instant feedback
